Alva is an architectural lighting design studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
We create atmospheres, spaces and memories through the use of light.
Our process is guided to create meaning and places for people through values as atmospheres, sustainability, comfort, aesthetics or the human perception. In our view, good lighting elevates the architecture while blending in with its own harmony and beauty. It reveals and gives form to spaces, supports spatial understanding and brings materials to life - in close dialogue with the architecture and its context.
We see all projects as an opportunity to incorporate our values on sustainability and create an impact through them. We design for the human experience but strive to create spaces where humans and nature can coexist - dreamers of a world without light pollution where everyone can enjoy the beauty of the starry night and all kinds of nature can live undisturbed.
We use technology to our advantage but only in cases it makes sense and there is a need to be used. Constantly seeking for new solutions and tendencies from the market but we prioritise and take pride in reusing, recovering or transforming lighting hardware.
Learning from experimentation, curiosity and conversations - we push and reinvent our thinking by having rich dialogues with our users, collaborators and clients.
We follow every step of the project from conception through completion - consistently engaged in the design process until the last fixture is adjusted on site.
