Kærlighed, the danish word for love was the title for an intimate exhibition that puts light into Thorvaldsen's drawings and sketches revolving around such a theme.
Love has always been a strong driving force behind many human actions - beautiful as well as ugly - and can be the cause of both happiness and pain. The lighting design for the exhibition supported the emotional diversity and different interpretations that such word can have.
The visual hierarchy was composed of two lighting layers. An ambient layer is implemented by using a uniform and diffused uplight - it illuminates the ceiling, emphasizing the architectural features of the building while providing indirect lighting to the space. The tunable white solution allowed to adjust the light to better render the colors on each arch of the beautiful ceilings of Thorvaldsens Museum. The content layer features the use of warm spotlights focusing the attention of the guest on the content of the exhibition - drawings and dissemination material.
The lighting atmosphere was intimate and romantic - guiding, focusing, and helping the visitor read the artworks while allowing to navigate through the corridor in darker areas giving a sense of privacy and personal space.
